After having 3 already amazing days in Colorado I was wondering what Baby G and I would find to do today. We had to check out of our lodge in the morning but Mr. G wasn't done with his meetings until 4 so Baby G and I needed to find something to occupy our time. I eventually decided that we should go see the Rocky Mountain National Park because who knows the next time we will get this chance again.
Before we even entered the park I saw 3 elk along the side of the road. After driving for about 10 minutes Baby G and I got out of the car to take some pictures of the amazing view.
Baby G had just woke up from a nap but was still all smiles.
We were able to find a nice man to take our picture while we were up there. After he took our picture I asked him if there was anything else up the road. He told me that about 10 miles farther is another sight seeing spot and it is definitely worth the drive. So Baby G and I hopped back in the car and headed farther up the mountain. After about a few miles I spotted some white stuff along the side of the road and quickly realized...
It was snow. It was about this time that I became aware that I am afraid of heights. I was amazed at how close the road is to the drop off of the mountain. I was starting to feel sick to my stomach.
After driving the 10 miles we got out again to take some pictures. The temperature had dropped down to about 50 degrees so it was time to bring out Baby G's babooshka.
Check out that view, Baby G.
He enjoyed playing on the rock wall and even though I knew there was no way he could fall over I was still extremely nervous.
But Baby G was just enjoying the experience. After a few minutes of taking in the view we decided to hop back in the car. I saw other people driving even further up the mountain. In my mind....or maybe it was out loud...I was calling those people crazy and turned my car to head back down the hill. Then at the last minute I turned the car in the opposite direction and started heading UP the mountain. As soon as I made the decision I was regretting it. I couldn't believe how high we were getting and how nervous I was feeling. I wanted more than anything to be back in Illinois driving no where near the mountains. I knew I was getting high because I stopped seeing trees, the temperature had dropped down to 44 degrees, and I started seeing warning signs posted everywhere....which wasn't comforting at all. Finally, we made it up the mountain and....
It was definitely worth it. Baby G can now say that the first time he saw snow on the ground was at the top of the Rocky Mountains.
How could you not believe in God after seeing this?
Baby G was sitting on top of the world.
And I was feeling on top of the world for getting to have such an incredible experience with my son.
Baby G loved crawling around on top of the mountain.
I know he won't remember our time in the Rockies but it will be something that I will never forget.
After about 5 minutes of standing on the top of the mountain I was ready to head back down. Baby G had different plans, though. I had to wrestle him to get him back in the car because he wanted to stay and play. The rest of the day was pretty laid back. Baby G and I played outside, stopped at a few shops, and while Baby G took his afternoon nap I sat in front of a pasture of horses in a valley of mountains and read a book. When Mr. G was done with his meetings we loaded up and headed to Boulder, Colorado. When we got to our hotel Baby G wanted to help daddy bring in our luggage.
Mr. G had a little fun with the cart too. After getting settled and eating a nice dinner, we all put our swimsuits on and headed to the pool
Mr. G helped Baby G get used to the water.
And he was liking it.
Then they slowly started making their way deeper into the water.
All Baby G kept saying was...."Bath"...."Bath"...."Bath"
These two boys had a blast splashing around in the water.....and after getting some pictures I finally got in too.
After swimming for 20 minutes or so Baby G was ready to get out and start walking around but he kept shivering from being wet and cold.
So we quickly wrapped him in his towel. What a big boy.
And after snapping one more picture of me and the lil guy we all headed back up to our room to crash. In fact, as I write this final sentence both Mr. G and Baby G lay asleep right next to me. How so very blessed I feel. Thank you, Lord!!!
